Favourite aviation writer for me was E. K. Gann. Two of his books I’d recommend:
FATE IS THE HUNTER (still in print) (horrible movie though) and;
FLYING CIRCUS (really hard to find. check 2nd hand book stores). One chapter was called “Category 1930s” and details the ‘fun’ of flying a radio range approach to minima in really foul wx. A really entertaining and informative read of a by-gone era. Yes I’m old enough to know what a Radio Range approach was and I’m glad they’re no longer an approach aid. Chris in Winnipeg – Canada.
I highly recommend “Flying Alaska Gold” by David Hoerner. Most of the flying he does is outrageous.
