Our second Q&A call for Oddball Pilot members was an interesting one (and a long one!).
The topic? “Recent Trends in Alaskan Aviation.”
Special guests included pilots from Talkeetna, Fairbanks, and Southeast.
One member on the call had just returned from Uganda, so we veered off topic for a while to get the scoop on opportunities in that part of the world. And toward the end of the call, another member (who’s working in Afghanistan) asked some questions that prompted a discussion about the importance of making your own connections as you look for work.
Along the way we talked about:
- Where Alaskan aviation is headed
- How flying in Alaska is becoming more “formalized”
- How technology is changing things
- How flying into Denali National Park is changing
- The benefits of lodge work (and what kind of person you need to be to enjoy it)
- Who’s hiring in Alaska right now
- What safety programs like the Medallion Foundation need to be effective
- And more!
