Northern Air Cargo has been hauling freight around the Last Frontier–and beyond–since 1956. Established as a charter airfreight service utilizing two C-82 “Flying Boxcars,” NAC’s fleet later included DC-6s, a 727-100s freighter, and the 737-200s and -300s they fly today. The company pioneered delivery of oversized cargo to remote DEW line sites, mines, and settlements.

Back in June Aidan caught up with NAC’s Chief Pilot, Nate Martin, in Anchorage.
In this interview you’ll hear about:
- How Nate started as a mechanic, then worked his way into flying and management
- Transitioning to jets
- NAC’s operations based out of Laredo, Texas that fly into Mexico
- What NAC looks for in hiring pilots
- The unique challenges of flying in different parts of the world
- And more
